I'm looking for something or someone specific. I want to learn Kundalini yoga, I think now is a perfect time for me to do that. I also would love to tie it into my learning to become a psycho-therapist and my own practice of mediation. I am always looking to connect the dots.
Does anyone know of a person ( maybe a funny, fearless women or a sensual, gentle man or any combination thereof) who I could consult with. I really would like to have a conversation about energy and psychology and whatnot and how Kundalini may help me and my clients in that area. The large pciture is to have a relationship other therapist/ body workers who can compliment me and my client's psycho-therapy work.
Thanks,
Aschleigh

Re: Kundalini yoga, psycho-therapy, healing, energy, etc...
Wed, September 2, 2009 - 1:31 PMThe first thing you will need to do is overcome your need to find a collection of precious experiences. In the 8 years I have done KY, I have not encountered a single teacher who is overly invested in provided a kitties, unicorns and rainbows experience for their practitioners. Among a few key tenets of the tradition, clearing out these sort of ridiciculous fictions goes with the practice. It's a practice that may very likely assist in helping unload a fair amount of baggage quickly and effectively.
That being said, you happen to be in an area of the world where there are quite a few KY teachers as that was where Yogi Bhajan settled for a while when he first came to the US.

Look at all of the teachers in LA - lots!
I would suggest you go to this person/center first as she is one of the premier teachers of the tradition, and I suspect those who have studied under her are probably extremely good teachers. If there is a population of perky Barbie Doll teachers, avoid them.

Prepare to have your ass kicked in the right way. Be aware that it can and does stir up a lot things in people that aren't always comfortable. But feelings pass; they ebb and flow, and sometimes you might end up feeling absolutely blissful. You have to be able to role with the tide and role with the punches.
A final word of advice: avoid the tendency of humans to project everything unto something new and different. While KY is extremely beneficial, it is no more a panacea than anything else.
Good luck to you: you will find many rewards if you pursue this path.
